One of the fundamentals of being an attractive man is your sense of style and the kind of clothes you wear, because it is one of the things that people use to judge you right off the bat. Because sometimes a well put together appearance is often times the deciding factor for how people perceive and treat you.
It could be the difference between getting that dream job or being unemployed
It could mean the difference between impressing your potential business partners, or loosing the contract.
It could mean the difference between being warmly received by that new girl you met or being harshly rejected.
Women can forgive a lot of things; like you being short, or not too fine or even a slight deformity, but your sense of style is something they take very seriously.
So it’s important to be aware of everything you are wearing and the impact it is having on how people see you.
Now I’ve written on some basic fashion guidelines, and the right way to wear certain articles of clothing, but I’ve never actually written about stuff to wear that actually makes you stand out, makes people curious about you and what not.
But there are; some of them are personal favorites of mine, (a lot o people tell me I have a good eye for beautiful things including clothes; So I took the liberty of compiling a list the top 10 items that every man who is worth his salt, and consciously trying to look good in his clothes should have of them here.
People always tell me I have excellent taste, and an eye for beautiful things. Probably because of all the time I spent in school studying to be an architect. So its no surprise that many of these clothes are personal favorites of mine.
And if you have any of them lacking, do yourself a favor and hit the stores, shops or even bend down select markets and add them to your wardrobe.
-
A Wristwatch
And you can get them in a number of price ranges, ranging from the very ridiculous to the more budget conscious. But you already knew that already didn’t you.
-
A Blazer
Even though the African sun will not permit you go around all day wearing one, it is still perfect to wear for heading to the bar at night or for semi-casual evening functions. Whatever, wherever and the blazer is a staple fashion piece that should not be far from any man’s wardrobe.
The key thing to note when buying a blazer is the fit on your body, especially in the shoulders and length of the sleeves. A good tailor can fix the rest.
A standard nice looking blazer will run you anywhere from N15k to N45k, and you can get them made by your personal tailor, or buy one online, or from one of the renowned shops around.
If I find any nice one worth getting I’ll be sure to post it here.

The Henley Shirt
Personally I prefer the long sleeve one because, a well fitted long sleeve shirt gives the illusion of height and muscle definition especially if you are lacking in those areas.
Look at these guys wearing them and tell me they don’t look like a million bucks. And once again fit is very important.
-
The Raglan T-shirt
The reason I love this shirt is because of the way the contrasting sleeves draw attention to your arms and shoulders, making you look manlier, sexier and more fashionable than you normally would.
They don’t seem to be very popular in Nigeria, which is a shame. I bought all of mine when I travelled, but a friend of mine is actually planning to make some of them here very soon.
-
Plain dark and light jeans trousers
Jeans should not be too baggy, or too tight either ( save that for the ladies and gender confused men). The ideal fit should be just roomy enough to allow a biro easily slide down inside your trousers from the waist to the ankle.
And length should be just above your foot resting on your ankle. That’s all
-
A Denim button down shirt.
If you’re light skinned, get something dark to contrast with your complexion, and vice versa if you’re on the dark side. Lol “dark side”
Try to get one with material that is not too thick, so that you can wear it around anywhere, without feeling like you are wearing a sweater or winter coat.
-
Brogues
-
Chelsea Boots
They originated in London as an easy to wear elastic boot that eliminated the need for laces, and John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles popularized them. But that’s ancient history.
These boots go especially well with skinny or close fitting trouser. And you can get them in all kinds of colours and materials.
-
Dress Trousers and Chinos
-
Casual comfortable trainers
Feel free to go to town with this one, just remember that the goal is to look casual, not go back to the days of being a kid wearing canvas.
-
A collection of manly bracelets and accessories
I got one ivory tooth necklace when I traveled to south Africa in 2012, and I wore it around constantly. And it was always a good way for people to start conversations with me, especially when I told them the story behind it.
So you can get something like that too. It doesn’t have to be expensive; just nice looking and unique. The one I had looked something like this.
