Haircut and beard styles separate the classic men from the riff-raff, the little boys from the grown men, the innocent friendly guys from the edgy sexy ladies men.  Your haircut can literally make or break you, so if you’ve been getting N100 haircuts since you were little, then I think it’s time you found a professional barbing saloon in Nigeria and…
upgraded to something a little more mature and attractive.
Black male hair; native to Africans, African- Americans, our Caribbean brothers and some bi-racial people, can be very hard to manage and style, due to its curly, coarse and tough nature. And that can be a problem because as men, changing our hair-cut and or facial hair is one of the few cosmetic ways we can actually change the way look.
Over the years I’ve tried out many different styles and had my hair cut by a number of different barbers; some of them I would really like to forget. So I went ahead and culled a list of some of the most attractive beard and haircut styles for the Nigerian man till date.
Most of them are basically the same, with a few slight variations to cater for the different head shapes. The most popular attractive ones are the Classic fade, Mohawk, skin cut, or clean shave, The Afro, and Dread locks. And in this article I’m going to highlight some of them with pictures, so you can get your hair looking sharp and sexy too.

  • The Jaw line Chin-strap and soul patch

This is a very simple yet stylish beard style, and it goes with just about any haircut you could possibly pull off. Hair under the chin, under the lower lip, and hair on top of the upper lip all come together to give the sophisticated appearance of the chin-strap and soul patch.

  • The Classic Afro

Here we have Drake sporting the classic Afro, with a low cut beard style which is a combination of a full chinstrap,  soul patch and facial stubble. Very good haircut choice if your hair is manageable enough to comb everyday, or if you have the budget to get it relaxed every two weeks or so.

  • Low Cut With Sporting waves

I don’t know who this guy is but his haircut is fresh as hell; his barber must be really talented. For some reason this picture seems to be very popular in Nigerian barbing salons, so just point it out and tell the barber to make you look as fresh as that.

  • Classic Sporting Waves

I think this haircut speaks for itself, and it show’s how fresh you can look even without a full beard.

  • The Mohawk

Cut the sides low and leave hair in the middle all the way from your forehead to your neck. This one gives you a very edgy and sexy look, so it might be frowned upon in some schools and work places.
There a few different variations of this cut, so if you’re in doubt just take a picture of what you want along with you to the barbers.

  • Dread locks with a Chin strap and soul patch

This is very nice too if you can maintain it, because it’s very easy to look crazy and unkempt with dirty, ugly dreads. There are shorter variations, which I personally prefer, but feel free to go with whatever you think suits you best.
Dreads might also be frowned upon at work and in school, so you might want to desist from this one until you’re making enough money to not need to work a 9 – 5 job anymore.

  • The Classic Fade

This is my personal favorite, and the haircut you’ll see me regularly sport. This guy also sports a full beard, mustache and a soul patch. Any barber who is good at what he does will know how to cut it for you.

You can see another variation of Fade, this one has a flat or table top, I’ve tried it a few times but I still prefer the rounder version.

  • Short Dreadlocks

I’m not entirely sure what this hairstyle is, but it looks like a low cut version of dreadlocks. I love the full beard here too. Chin strap, soul patch, mustache; this guy has got it all.

  • The Skin Cut

This one is a keeper; very refined, sexy and very safe for the work place. It also shows dominance and strength, just ask Vin Diesel. Not everybody can pull it off though, but if you have a smooth, round, even skull, with a nice beard to go along with it, then I think we just found the right haircut for you.Beard-styles-for-bald-black-men

Here’s another variation. This one is a thinner chinstrap without the soul patch, and the sharp-angled shaping is very masculine and sexy.

More Haircuts And Beard tips

You should always go to the barbers with your own clipper, brushes and other hair styling accessories to reduce the risk of getting an infection or a skin/ hair problem.
If it’s a professional barber, ask him how nice the style will look on you before you attempt it, and ask him to give you some of his own recommendations too; he is the expert after all.
Also remember that there is a thin line between looking suave and sexy, and looking like an irresponsible attention seeker. Some styles are meant only for celebrities who make a living by looking a bit crazy, so please don’t try to imitate them.
So I think that should wrap things up nicely; don’t forget that your hair is only part of your appearance so make sure you also know the fashion basics to compliment your new hair.
Till next time.
